Nine months from the general election, Jeff Koinange opened Sunday Live with a blunt question for DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala: "Where the hell have you been?"
Malala, the former Kakamega senator, insisted he had been busy. While party leader Rigathi Gachagua was in the United States, he said, the work was divided: Senator John Methu kept the Mountain warm, and Malala built party structures in Western. Jeff was not convinced, suggesting Methu looked like the man in charge. Malala called that a matter of interpretation, and said only "an inferior mind" would feel sidelined. He described himself as a founder member of DCP and said he had spoken to Gachagua that same day.
He was firm on the opposition's biggest question, saying support for Edwin Sifuna's presidential candidacy was "in my bone marrow" and that it is time for younger leadership. He also dismissed talk that Kalonzo Musyoka might cross over to the government, recalling how Kalonzo had patiently stood by Raila Odinga through past disappointments. The moment at Sifuna's launch that looked like a slight on Kalonzo, he said, was a crowd reaction and not something either leader intended.
In Part 2, Malala confirmed he is running for Kakamega governor, promising better roads, working hospitals and staff who are paid on time. Jeff then pressed him on claims that he takes money to switch parties. Malala turned the question around, pointing out that Jeff is paid by his employer too. "Money is not a crime," he said.
Viewers kept the pressure on through the Magic Wall, questioning whether he is truly trusted inside DCP. He laughed off the "mole" label, warning that the opposition will tear itself apart if every disagreement earns that name, and said calling Ndindi Nyoro a mole should not be encouraged.
He also paused to congratulate Citizen TV on 25 years. It was a lively, often funny hour with one of Kenya's sharpest political talkers, and a useful guide to the tensions inside the opposition as 2027 gets closer.
