The opposition says it wants one candidate for 2027, but its leaders cannot stop trading insults. On Jeff Koinange Live, PNU party leader and former Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya responded to DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, who had told a rally in Nyeri that some opposition leaders were alone and had no following.

Munya called that language demeaning. "He's not acting as a bully. He's a bully," he said, pointing to Gachagua's clash with the Murang'a governor as another example. Someone who has served as deputy president, he argued, should speak to fellow leaders with more courtesy.

Jeff asked whether he had tried to raise it privately. Munya said there comes a point where quiet talks do not work and you have to speak publicly. He insisted it was not personal: he was a close friend of Gachagua's late brother, and he credited Gachagua with exposing the government's failures since his impeachment. What he wants to see end, he said, is the tendency to issue threats and act like a dictator.

Jeff did not let him off lightly either, asking how his party ended up with only a few dozen votes in the recent Ol Kalou by-election. Munya maintained that his support is real and said elections, not rallies, will show who has the people.

On the bigger question of unity, Munya described efforts to reorganise the Azimio coalition and bring in more parties, including the possibility of Gachagua's outfit joining. Everyone agrees there will be one presidential candidate, he said. What is needed is a structured, transparent way to choose that person, and that cannot happen while leaders are calling each other names. He said he would not back Gachagua as the candidate because of what he called his dictatorial tendencies.
