Jeff Koinange is currently host of the popular and controversial Talk Show, Jeff Koinange LIVE #JKL broadcast on Kenya’s most watched Television Channel, CITIZEN TV. Mostly known as a journalist, broadcaster and television news anchor. Jeff is also a great negotiator, a skilled motivator, excellent showman and gifted presenter. Most people try to fit Jeff into molds but rarely succeed in capturing his essence. Jeff’s genius for reporting and keen understanding of his subject’s overshadows all his flaws, making him one of the most successful reporters to originate from Africa. Jeff makes interviewing look effortless but the subject is always treated with integrity and credibility.
He is the First Black African journalist to be prominently featured on international network television and at CNN, Jeff cemented his reputation as one of the most accomplished journalists of our time.
Master of Ceremonies
Jeff is also a keen and energetic Master of Ceremonies and has hosted numerous Bilateral and Multilateral events for the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Health Organization (WHO), The United Nation’s Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), The Economic Commission of Africa (ECA), the East African Community (EAC), the African Union (AU) and various United Nations (UN) Organization agencies.
Awards and Honors
Jeff’s consummate skills have been recognized internationally with numerous awards. He is the First African to win an Emmy/ First African to win a Peabody Vernon Jarrett, Prix Bayeux etc.
Jeff Koinange has received numerous prestigious awards for his journalism. In 2005, he won a Television Emmy for his coverage of the Niger famine, followed by a 2006 George Foster Peabody Award for reporting on Hurricane Katrina. His courageous work in conflict zones earned him the 2006 Prix Bayeux for War Correspondents and the Vernon Jarrett Bronze Medal in both 2006 and 2007 for features on mass rapes in the Congo and famine in Malawi.
He was also a finalist for the Diageo Awards for Business Reporting in Africa (2006, 2007). In 2008, he received Kenya’s highest civilian honor, the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS), recognizing his outstanding contributions to journalism locally and globally.
Book: Through my African eyes
Through My African Eyes, published in 2014 by the Footprints Press Kenya, Koinange describes his school days and his career climb to be one of Africa’s most recognised journalists. Despite being a public figure, he has kept a lot of his personal life private, and the book serves as a window into his life. Through My African Eyes is a concise narrative covering some of the major players in 20th century African politics. The book is rich with insights into the personal and intellectual underpinnings of many historical events in Africa. Chronicles of some pretty interesting Africans from warlords, soldiers, victims and politicians lend insight into Jeff’s celebrated journalistic style.
